Twilight
Twilight drone photography in New Jersey.
Dusk aerials of New Jersey estates, clubs, and commercial properties, flown legally during civil twilight with anti-collision lighting.
Why twilight images stand out
After sunset, interior and landscape lighting no longer competes with the sun. From the air, the lit property stands out against a deep blue sky, and it suggests warmth and quality in a way a daytime image can't. On a listing site, the twilight image is usually the one people stop on.
A short, tightly planned window
The balanced light lasts about twenty minutes. Positions are flown and set before sunset, shots are ordered by which angles lose light first, and exposures are bracketed for editing. It is the most time-critical work we do.
Within Part 107
Part 107 permits flights during civil twilight with anti-collision lighting, and that is where we operate. We don't offer night flights after civil twilight ends.
Twilight questions
What makes twilight shots different from day shots?
Light balance. For about twenty minutes after sunset, the sky and the property's lights are at similar brightness, so windows glow while the sky keeps its deep blue. The window is short, so twilight is scheduled as its own flight.
Which properties justify a twilight shoot?
Properties with good exterior and interior lighting: estates and luxury listings, hotels and clubs, retail centers with lit signage, and marinas at dusk.
Is it legal for drones to fly at twilight?
Yes. Part 107 permits flights during civil twilight with anti-collision lighting, which our aircraft carry. We don't offer night flights after civil twilight ends.
Can twilight be added to a daytime shoot?
Often, if the schedule allows a return at dusk. Day and twilight shoots share the travel but need different light, so they're planned as two flights. Ask in the quote form and we'll price the combination.
How should the property be prepared for a twilight shoot?
Turn on every interior light, open the blinds, and switch on landscape, pool, and sign lighting about half an hour before sunset. Move cars out of the driveway and put away anything you wouldn't want in a listing photo. A dark window or a lit garage reads clearly from the air.
What happens if it's cloudy at sunset?
Light cloud can make a better sky; a solid overcast removes the blue that makes twilight work. We watch the forecast and make the call earlier in the day, and if the sky won't cooperate, the flight moves to the backup date.
